My light sculptures are a body of work that I started when I moved to Alpine, TX. The group as a whole was conceived in response the fascination with the idea of purpose, and function in an artwork. Lighting was chosen because of the common connection anyone can make to the use of a light source. The cords are what I see as a necessary esthetic completion of the sculpture. Light both illuminates its immediate environment and functions as a symbol of spirituality.
Several small series have developed within this body of work. Some pieces integrate antique film and slide projector shapes. Spacecraft, robot and science experiment themes developed. Scavenged computer parts have become studies incorporating the concepts of infinity and memory. My re-use of manufactured shapes works simultaneously as a structural component, and symbolic elevation of the discarded.
